NOTE:  This KB is not relevant for BlackBerry UEM customers. BlackBerry licensing is handled by BlackBerry.

CAPTOR is engineered to check in to the Inkscreen Licensing Server upon initial activation, and then again once the license key has expired. If the license has been extended, the new expiration date will be saved and it will not check in again until that date has passed. This structure benefits our customers by minimizing data traffic, minimizing interruptions to the user experience, and allowing the application to function in an offline disconnected mode.

When Inkscreen receives a purchase order to renew or extend a license, all existing app user registrations are deleted from the Inkscreen Licensing Server. This helps the customer manage the license usage and account for changes in the app user pool. For example, if a user in Year 1 leaves the company, the CAPTOR license would be made available in the license pool upon renewal of the license. This structure enables a natural refreshing of the license pool.

At any time the IT Admin can request a CAPTOR user registration report by emailing support@inkscreen.com.. This report can only be shared with authorized customer contacts. You can use that report to request any specific user registrations to be deleted from the license.

No impact to the IT Admin!  In nearly all cases, the license key will remain the same when you renew your CAPTOR license. Therefore, the existing app configuration should continue to be valid moving forward. Renewal time is always a great opportunity to review the current app configuration guide to ensure you are taking advantage of all the features and policies that are relevant for your organization. We also recommend scheduling a 30 minute consultation by emailing support@inkscreen.com or calling our office +1 (512) 888-9090.

No impact to the app user!  The entire activation process happens silently. The only potential disruption would occur if the app user launched CAPTOR in a disconnected environment the very first time after a renewal date had passed. In that rare scenario, the user would have to use the app one time while connected to Wifi or cellular so that the handshake could occur between the app and Inkscreen Licensing Server. Once that handshake has occurred the app user would be free to use the app offline again.
